Miner's Carbide Cap
We received such a great donation to our collection! A miner's cap from the 1910s. It is a canvas cap with a leather rim and a lamp bracket. The carbide lamp would have been powered by acetylene gas, which burned cleanly and brighter than oil-wicks. The reflector would give the miner a wider range of light. The lamp was dangerous though, as the open flame could ignite gas in mines.
