USS Mississippi (CGN-40)
The Mississippi, a Virginia-class nuclear fuel powered, U.S. Navy guided-missile cruiser, was the fourth of that name, was built by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company in Virginia. As the world’s most advanced nuclear cruiser, she was equipped with technology and weaponry to fulfill warfare missions against countries like Libya and Lebanon and in Operations Desert Shield and Storm. After a successful career and many awards received, the Mississippi was recycled in 2004.
